Competition continued Friday at the Long Center for The Florida Swimming Junior Olympics. In Friday's action: Joshua Chen won the 11/12 Boys 50 Fly, and took 2nd in the 100 Breast and the 100 IM; Bexhet Dovolani took 2nd in the 10&Under Boys 100 Breast, and 6th in the 50 Fly, John Farese was 11th in the 13/14 Boys 200 Freestyle; Robert Finke finished 3rd in the 200 Freestyle and 4th in the 10&Under Boys 100 IM Summer Finke took 5th in the 200 Freestyle and 2nd in the 400 IM; Lindsey Leadbetter took 9th in the 10&Under Girls 50 Fly, and 13th in the 100 IM; Caroline Neely was 8th in the 200 Freestyle and 12th in the 100 Fly; Also swimming this day were Mark Marshburn, Macy Marshburn, Amanda Burrows, Jenna McQueen, Alex Grant, and Peyton Palsha.
Thursday
The 2010 Florida Swimming Short Course Junior Olympics got underway last night with the 10&Under 500 Freestyle, 11/12 1000 Freestyle and 13/14 1000 Freestyle. Swimming for SPA, Lindsey Leadbetter took 13th and Peyton Palsha finished 14th in the 10&Under Girls 500 Free. Lindsey’s time was 6:10.54 and Peyton’s was 6:11.01. In the Boys 10&Under 500 Free, Bobby Finke was 2nd with a time of 5:38.85 and Bexhet Dovolani was 4th with a time of 5:55.42. In the 13/14 Boys 1000 Free, John Farese finished 5th with a time of 9:57.73. Mickey Hubbard placed 28th in the 13/14 Girls 1000 Free with a time of 11:04.57. That same event provided the closest race of the night. SPA’s Summer Finke battled Sarasota’s Danielle Valley from start to finish with Summer winning the race by 0.31 seconds, 9:54.60 to 9:54.91. The time also qualified Summer for the Conoco-Phillips National Open in August in Irvine, California. The competition continues through Sunday with prelims and finals sessions each day.
